Sarinder Bindra from UNEP

“The carboNZero programme is an important example of how a nationally driven greenhouse gas emissions management and certification scheme can advance the global transition to low carbon economies and societies by encouraging companies big and small, organizations and even individuals to do something about their carbon footprint. It is also an inspiring example of how climate neutrality can be successfully branded and communicated to both domestic and international audiences. UNEP's Climate Neutral Network has greatly benefited from the pioneering and enriching experiences of Landcare Research's carboNZero programme and its many clients who have joined the CN Net initiative. They are a living and breathing testimony that "de-carbonizing" our communities, companies, cities and ultimately countries is both a viable and far-sighted strategy.”

Satinder Bindra, Director of Communications, United Nations Environment Programme

Phil O'Riley

"As we move to a carbon efficient economy, it's important that businesses have the right tools and robust certification processes to identify the opportunities to reduce their emissions. Landcare Research is to be congratulated for taking the initiative."

Phil O'Reilly, Chief Executive, Business New Zealand

Colin Maund

“Achilles was looking for a credible solution to measuring carbon emissions based on proven academic and scientific research, centred on the premise of reducing emissions and developing long-term strategies. In Landcare Research we have found a partner whose values reflect our own, whose services can be replicated across a whole range of industry sectors, and a programme which offers a practical way forward at a reasonable cost to our communities.”

Colin Maund, Chief Executive, Achilles Group Limited

Nick

"The carboNZero programme provides a robust solution for those entities that wish to develop a plan for emissions measurement, management and mitigation and to gain market recognition for their efforts. In a time where voluntary market standards are still being developed and there are a number of claims of carbon neutrality which are of questionable reliability, carbonNZero certification provides assurance to consumers that the claims are made against independently generated standards, programmes that have been verified and results that have been independently assured. Landcare Research is to be congratulated in developing such a product and keeping at the forefront of greenhouse gas emissions certification methodologies."

Nick Main, Chairman, Deloitte

Mark Lowndes

" The rapidly expanding body of evidence about climate change means companies need to take action, partner Mark Lowndes said. “Our firm’s decision to be carbon neutral is not just for the ‘feel good’ factor; in fact, it’s fundamentally a business decision. Consumers are demanding that companies demonstrate responsibility, and in a global marketplace, New Zealand firms across all industries face a real risk of being left behind unless they show decisiveness in modifying their practices.” As part of attaining carboNZero certification, Lowndes Associates measured all activities causing greenhouse gas emissions and implemented reduction programmes to address the biggest sources of emissions. Lowndes Associates is currently assessing its supply chain and researching environmentally friendly suppliers."

“It’s a scheme that sets the standard in benchmarking for organisations serious about making a positive difference to their impact on the environment.”

Bruce McLachlan, acting Chief Executive, Westpac New Zealand

Rob Trusler, Director, Venture Taranaki

Wairau logo

“From Wairau River Wines point of view, the process of gaining carboNZero accreditation has been very worthwhile. You are measuring your business in a way that not only accounts for GHG emissions but also allows far better comparisons year on year for measuring business performance. The rigidness and authenticity of the scheme provides our distributors and customers with the assurance they are not being ‘greenwashed’ by false claims.”

Lindsay Parkinson, General Manager, Wairau River Wines

J Friend and Co

"We joined the carboNZeroCertTM small enterprise certification programme because we are committed to running a sustainable and ethically sound business.  The programme has provided us with a clear, simple template with which to accurately measure and manage our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Being a small start up company, the carboNZero small enterprise programme provided us with an ideal way to enter the scheme and then work towards our ultimate goal of full carboNZero certification"

Jeremy Friend, Director, NZ Artisan Honey

John and Jim

"carboNZero certification has done more than raise PaintPlus’s profile in the market. We have also seen significant cost reductions coming through, due to our reduced energy consumption and the reduction in waste. Going through carboNZero certification provided new impetus to our environmental commitment. The discipline of going through the prescribed process gets you to examine every single part of your business operation, sometimes with surprising results.”

John Warman, Director, PaintPlus Colour Systems Ltd

Helen Clark

“The New Zealand government and businesses work hard to ensure Kiwi goods and services are globally competitive, and that we have a strong reputation for being environmentally sustainable. Overseas consumers are increasingly conscious of the role and impact of freight and transport in getting the product to international markets. We want New Zealand products to keep their marketing edge. carboNZero certification provides a practical solution to this challenge, by offering a positive step to reduce and offset emissions.”

Helen Clark, former New Zealand Prime Minister
Hamish Reid

“Project Litefoot’s mission is to raise awareness and inspire action for a more environmentally sustainable New Zealand via our top sportspeople. It is important that we walk the talk so we decided to seek carboNZero certification for our operations. The process was far less complex than we anticipated and certification has brought us powerful measurability and, most importantly, credibility amongst existing and prospective partners.”

Hamish Reid, Project Litefoot Founder

Phil Price, Managing Director Infrastructure, Laing O'Rourke

May Gurney logo

"Managing our carbon footprint through a verified greenhouse gas (GHG) scheme such as CEMARS prepares us for impending regulations and helps us reduce risk factors related to management of our GHG inventory. CEMARS certification is clear evidence of our actions to address climate change. It gives us confidence that the systems we are putting in place are heading in the right direction, and shows that we are addressing the requirements and concerns of our employees, investors, and clients."

Dr Tom Macagno, Head of Sustainability, May Gurney

Antipodes Water

“People are more concerned about where products are sourced and how far they’ve travelled. Working with the carboNZero programme helps us widen our environmental management actions and lets others know that Antipodes has reduced and mitigated our impacts on climate change.”

Andrew Railton, Antipodes Water Company Limited

Dr Mark Wade

"New Zealand’s clean, green brand image is well-established, but should not be taken for granted. Consumers will be calling New Zealand to account on that image, insisting on proof that it is based on fact. The carboNZero programme enables you to go to market with confidence on your performance and to include this in brand communications and labelling".

Dr Mark Wade, Sustainability Advisor to the NZTE Beachheads programme.

Croxley

“Croxley has been CEMARS® certified since 2008. I find the Programme’s tools, guidance, templates, and support to be very helpful in enabling us to maintain our certification efficiently and effectively. We run seven or so different certification programmes and CEMARS is one of the most smooth and efficient processes. We are also seeing real results – as of 2012, we’ve reduced our emissions by 393 tCO2e, which is a 21% reduction in absolute emissions and a 7% reduction in emissions intensity. CEMARS certification just makes sense.”

Tony de Felice, Health, Safety & Environment Manager, Croxley Stationary Limited
