Measure your greenhouse gas emissions
|
|
Villa Maria Estate Ltd have measured all GHG emissions associated with it's vineyards, wineries, corporate operations and deliveries. |
- Our household and travel & tourism calculators are freely available for households and individuals.
- Our small enterprise calculator is an on-line, self assessment tool, to be used by small enterprises, with greenhouse gas emissions less than 50 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2-e), proceeding through the carboNZero small enterprise certification programme.
- For large organisations undergoing carboNZero certification or CEMARS certification, our unique Internet-based greenhouse gas inventory tool, E-Manage, enables emissions to be calculated using the appropriate emissions factors by geographical region and measurement period. E-manage enables you to manage your greenhouse gas emissions data by organisational or operational structure, e.g. by business unit or by production unit. One of the many useful features of E-manage is the ability to benchmark against internal or external measures to monitor performance and progress towards emissions reduction.
Our measurement tools for individuals, organisations and events meet and exceed the requirements of relevant international standards: the Greenhouse Gas Protocol for corporate accounting and reporting and ISO 14064-1 the international standard for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals.
Measurement of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with products, services and events includes additional life-cycle emissions relevant to the type of carboNZero certification being sought. Where there is existing industry or sector-based best practice for measurement and reduction, this is taken into account in the programme requirements for carboNZero certification.
We actively participate in the development of the leading international standards in greenhouse gas measurement and reduction. And we have access to the expertise of Landcare Research scientists who are internationally recognised experts in greenhouse gas measurement, carbon monitoring and the creation of carbon sinks.
The carboNZero programme actively maintains an emissions factor database that is used by E-Manage and our calculators. The emissions factors are sourced from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) emissions factors database, New Zealand Ministry of Economic Development (MED) annually published energy-related greenhouse gas emissions data, the United Kingdom Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) for some international freight emissions factors not otherwise available, the Australian Department for Climate Change emissions factor workbook, and our own and externally published research. For embodied emissions in materials, we may additionally consult reputable databases developed for life cycle assessment. From 2008, the New Zealand Ministry for the Environment will annually publish national greenhouse gas emissions factors for voluntary corporate reporting.
