Market your climate change actions
Organisations that gain CEMARS and/or carboNZero certification can be confident that the certifications awarded have both credibility and integrity.
- Credibility is provided by the science underpinning the measurement, management and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, meeting and exceeding international best practice and verification by our approved independent verifiers.
- Integrity is provided by our advisory panel whose role is to provide independent technical and ethical oversight of the programme.
Communication is essential to the ongoing success of your certification. We provide resources and support to in-house marketing and communications teams and external agencies, to translate carbon management, reduction and offsetting activity into compelling propositions, PR materials and press releases for both internal and external audiences.
Use of certification marks
The carboNZero programme actively maintains a surveillance programme to ensure that their certification marks (word marks and logos) are used correctly. CEMARS certified organisations, products and services and carboNZero certified organisations, products, services and events are listed on our Clients pages.

carboNZero certification marks
carboNZero certified organisations and events are entitled to display a landscape version of the carboNZero certification mark.
- 'certified organisation' - the operational emissions for the whole organisation are measured and offset. The measurement of emissions is compliant with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and ISO 14064-1 - claims must be consistent with the boundary that has been offset.
- 'certified small enterprise' - the operational emissions for the whole organisation are measured and offset. The measurement of emissions is consistent with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and ISO 14064-1. Small enterprises may not claim that their products or services are certified.
This is a sample of the 'certified organisation' certification mark. The tag-line will be different for different certifications e.g. organisation, small enterprise, manufacturing operation.
- 'certified product' and 'certified service' - life cycle stages are identified and the greenhouse emissions for each life cycle stage are measured - claims must be consistent with the boundary that has been offset. The measurement of emissions is consistent with the new PAS 2050 standard for measuring the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions of goods and services. carboNZero certified products and services may display a portrait version of the carboNZero certification mark under license.
This is a sample of the 'certified product' certification mark. Variation in colour scheme is available to suit the certified product or service. The tag line will be different for product and service certification.
- 'certified conference' - the emissions for the organisation of the conference and speakers are measured and offset; the emissions for delegates are measured and optionally offset - delegates are encouraged to offset their own emissions - claims must be consistent with the boundary that has been offset. The measurement of emissions is consistent with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and ISO 14064-1.
- 'certified event' - the emissions for the organisation of the event and performers are measured and offset and the emissions for the audience are estimated - attendees are encouraged to offset their own emissions - claims must be consistent with the boundary that has been offset. The measurement of emissions is consistent with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and ISO 14064-1.
- 'certified team' -
the emissions for the administration (infrastructure and management) of the team, sponsorship fulfilment, training sessions and team travel are measured, reduced and offset. Embodied emissions in the equipment (including uniforms) used by the team and competition infrastructure is not included in the measurement. The measurement of emissions is consistent with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and ISO 14064-1.

This is a sample of the 'certified event' certification mark. The tag-line will be different for different certifications e.g. event, conference or team.
