Options for certification
The options for certification through the carboNZero programme are:
- Organisation – covering all business units within the organisation
- Partial business – e.g. corporate operations
- Product – covering the organisation and product life cycle greenhouse gas emissions
- Partial product – e.g. manufacturing
- Service – covering the organisation and service life cycle greenhouse gas emissions
- Small enterprise – business with greenhouse gas emissions less than 50 tonnes CO2-e
- Event – covering all the activities in organising, running and attending an event.
- Partial event – e.g. a festival
Organisations embark on the carboNZero certification programme for a variety of reasons.
- Measure – to achieve a verified greenhouse gas emissions inventory in order to make a submission to the Carbon Disclosure Project or for annual reporting purposes.
- Measure + Manage – to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve a certified emissions reduction for reporting purposes.
- Measure + Manage + Mitigate – to complete carboNZero certification requirements and achieve carbon neutral status.
- Measure + Manage + Mitigate + Market – to promote the organisation or market products and services as carboNZero certified.
There are SIX key steps to attain certification through the carboNZero programme. Certification is subject to annual renewal.
- Measure – understand and measure your greenhouse gas emissions.
- Manage – make a commitment to manage and reduce your emissions at source.
- Mitigate – mitigate or offset your remaining, unavoidable emissions.
- Audit – undergo an independent audit from our list of approved auditors.
- Certification - confirmation of all above steps and issue certificate.
- Market – communicate carboNZero certification including through use of the carboNZero certification mark.
