Mike Tournier, Business Manager |

Mike is responsible for the commercial development of the carboNZero programme. He works with commercial clients to assist them in managing risk and creating value through the implementation of business solutions based on solid science.
Mike has an extensive business management background including the role of general manager for a large international brokering business in the Middle East. He has also worked in international finance and marketing, project management and business development roles in start-up markets and commercial services.
Mike has a Master of Business Administration from the University of Canterbury. |
Ann Smith, Technical & Certification Manager |
Ann is responsible for technical development of the carboNZero programme. She participates in the development of international standards for greenhouse gas accounting and reporting to ensure that the certification of our clients is based on international best practice.
Ann has significant expertise and experience in environmental management and sustainable development strategies. Her previous roles include sustainability coordinator for a large UK university and project manager for collaborative projects designed to help businesses improve their environmental performance.
Ann has Bachelor of Science (Honours) in botany and psychology from the University of Adelaide, a Doctorate in marine biology from the University of London, and a personal chair in environmental management for business from the University of Hertfordshire. |

Jeska McNicol , Verification & QA Manager |
 |
Jeska is the GHG Verification and Quality Manager for the carboNZero programme and is based in Lincoln.
Jeska's work involves managing the carboNZero verification process conducted by approved carboNZero auditors. This includes verifier training, witness audits, verifier assessments, and ensuring that the JAS-ANZ accreditation commitments are upheld throughout the verification process.
Jeska has ten years experience in environmental management and sustainability tools for businesses. Including work as a researcher, consultant and auditor. Jeska is an IEMA registered Lead EMS and Environmental Auditor and has conducted over 200 environmental audits including ISO14001, Green Globe, Environ-Mark(NZ) and for the carboNZero programme.
Jeska holds a Masters Degree in Professional Studies (Environmental Management) from Lincoln University, a Bachelor of Science Degree (Plant and Microbial Sciences) from Canterbury University, and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Environmental Technology from CPIT. |
John Andrews, Senior Technical Advisor |
John is a senior technical advisor for the carboNZero programme and is based in Auckland.
John’s work involves research and further development of the standards, guidance and tools provided by the programme. In particular, John will be assessing and developing the programme's greenhouse gas emissions factors and developing protocols for measuring GHG emissions for new sectors. John has wide experience in carbon accounting mitigation projects having previously worked on developing the tools used by the UK Water Industry to assess their GHG emissions. John has also experience of organic waste and wastewater treatment technologies.
John holds an Engineering Doctorate in Environmental Technology from the University of Surrey and an MSc in Chemistry from Bristol University. |

Stu McKenzie, Senior Advisor |

Stu is a senior advisor who supports organisations through the carboNZero certification process. He leads the development of the tools and resources to assist individuals and organisations to measure and understand their greenhouse gas emissions and their environmental impacts.
Stu has considerable experience in greenhouse gas accounting and has contributed to several research projects including the New Zealand Carbon Monitoring System and EBEX21 indigenous forest carbon credits programme.
Stu is continuously seeking options to minimise his own personal impacts and is increasing his rate of cycling to work, use of a carpool, and making his house more energy efficient.
Stu has a Bachelor of Science in geography and earth sciences and a Postgraduate Diploma in natural resource management from Massey University. |
Sam Bridgman, Advisor |
Sam is an advisor with primary responsibility for taking conferences and events through the carboNZero programme. He also assists public agencies (central government and local authorities) to prepare their greenhouse gas inventories.
Sam has over five years experience in the environmental industry. His previous roles include Business Partnership Coordinator for the London Borough of Islington and advisor at the Ministry for the Environment with specific responsibility for designing and implementing sustainable business practices across government departments.
Sam has a strong interest in environmental issues and is currently learning about raising a green baby.
Sam has a Bachelor of Resources Studies (Honours) from Lincoln University. |

Stephen Burgham, Advisor |

Stephen is responsible for supporting clients through the carboNZero certification process and had particular responsibility for developing and maintaining the programme's databases.
Stephen has many years of research experience in soil science (including field description of soils, interpretation for land use, and soil databases) and he has specialised in remote sensing, image processing of satellite data and environmental management.
Stephen has a strong interest in environmental issues. He has a large organic vegetable garden and his house is becoming increasingly energy-efficient.
Stephen has a Bachelor of Science in earth sciences from Massey University. |
Sebastian Mierau, Advisor |
Sebastian is an advisor with primary responsibility for clients in the Auckland region. He works with businesses seeking certification for the organisation, products and services.
Sebastian has experience at central and local government level in climate change policy, emissions profiles, environmental footprinting and climate change mitigation strategies with the Ministry for the Environment and the Communities for Climate Protection programme. He has recent experience as a bee keeper in Nelson where he developed pest control and monitoring systems to secure organic status for the business.
Sebastian has studied towards a Masters of Science in energy and environmental management at the University of Flensburg, Germany. A requirement for this degree was an international exchange year, which he completed in Victoria University of Wellington. This research evolved into a Masters of Science thesis in geography about climate change in the Pacific.

Mark Klouwens, International Business Manager |

Mark is responsible for leading the coordination, development and acquisition of international business for the carboNZero programme. He develops strategies and implementation plans for fostering new business and works closely with relevant international companies, consulting firms and government agencies to identify, access and develop new markets.
Mark has extensive experience within the oil and gas industry working in New Zealand, Australia and Malaysia within the Shell Group. Mark has a background in both mechanical engineering and commerce, with his most recent roles involved with regional Asia Pacific marketing and business unit management.
Mark holds a NZCE (Mechanical) and a Diploma in Business Studies from Massey University.

Josephine Rudkin-Binks, New Zealand Sales Manager |
Josephine is responsible for leading the coordination, development and acquisition of domestic business for the carboNZero programme.
Originally from the UK, Josephine began her sales career in the hotel and events industry where she worked for Grosvenor House Hotel (Park Lane, London) and then as Sale’s Director for IBR (which is now, under the name of Zibrant, one of the UK’s largest events companies).In 2005 Josephine and her family moved to Auckland where she took a position with AUT The Conference Centre as business development manager.It was there that she found her passion for sustainability when she initiated the Conference Centre’s sustainability programme, which lead to them winning the Sustainable Business Network’s (SBN) “Get Sustainable Challenge” national finals.
Josephine has a BTEC Higher National Diploma in business and finance from the London Metropolitan University (formerly North London Polytechnic).

May Chang, Account Manager |

May manages client accounts nationally from the enquiries stage to certification. This includes supporting businesses through, and monitoring the small enterprise certification programme. May also assists with market research and analysis, development of sales strategies and maintains the carboNZero programme website.
May works closely with our partners and special projects, including Project Litefoot Trust, a green initiative that is led by New Zealand’s most prominent athletes working towards measuring and reducing their own emissions and inspire more people to live sustainably. May is a talented golfer and has been a member of the Canterbury Women’s Golf Team since 2000.
May has a Bachelor of Recreation Management in tourism and marketing from Lincoln University. |
Kathryn Hailes , Marketing and Communications Manager |
Kathryn leads the marketing and communication aspects of the carboNZero programme, both domestically and internationally. This includes working closely with carboNZero clients to ensure they obtain value from marketing their carboNZero certification. Kathryn is also responsible for managing media and compliance against the programme standards for brand use. She assists with brand strategy, market research and identifying new sales opportunities.
Kathryn has experience working in hospitality, sales and marketing. Her interests include marketing strategy, particularly internationalisation, brand development, relationship marketing, market research and analysis.
Kathryn has a Bachelor of Commerce (First Class Honours) in marketing management from the University of Otago.

Daniela Ramirez, Business Development Manager - Chile |

Daniela works with both New Zealand and International clients, particularly Latin American,to help them achieve carboNZero certification
Daniela has a special interest in climate change and carbon management. She is an environmental engineer with experience in ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems and food and safety standards in different sectors such as wine, animal production and food processing. She was also an assistant lecturer for an environmental management course at the University of Chile.
Daniela has a Bachelor of Science in natural resources from the University Of Chile and a Master of technology environmental management from the University of Malaya, Malaysia.

Guy Harris, IT Systems and Project Manager |
Guy manages the carboNZero calculators, website, web applications plus supporting software and servers. He is also responsible for project management of IT related projects.
Guy is passionate about sustainability and he cycles to work or commutes as part of a regular carpool. In his spare time, Guy is completing postgraduate study with Massey University, focusing on GHG Mitigation Analysis and Energy Management.
Guy has a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in development studies from the University of Wales, a Graduate Certificate in Applied Computing from Lincoln University and is a Certified Associate in Project Management (PMI). |

Alana Vallance, Office Manager

Alana is the Office Manager, with responsibilities including PA to Business Manager and General Manager Technical. She also looks after all office issues within the carboNZero team.
Alana's background is Accounts Payable/Receivable and Office Administation, she came to the carboNZero programme from within the accounts department at Landcare Research.
Alana also has an interest in holistic health and has studied Theraputic Massage for two and a half years. She has a strong concern for the envirnoment and has starting using energy efficient lighting throughout her house, Alana also tries to recycle where ever possible. |
Michelle Edwards , Administration Assistant |
Michelle’s role is to provide administration assistance for the certification activities and technical development of the carboNZero programme.
Michelle comes from a corporate travel background but has wanted to work in the environment and sustainability field for a long time. She plans to study environment and sustainability part time in the New Year.
Michelle has made efforts at home to become more environmentally responsible by switching all household laundry and cleaning products to natural, non-toxic substitutes. She also enjoys exercising with her two dogs and being involved in speedway.
Michelle has a diploma in Travel, tourism and business technology. |

Carl Colenutt , Accountant |

Carl is the Accountant for the carboNZero programme. Carl prepares monthly financial reports and provide accounting support to the programme.
Carl has recently emigrated from Gloucestershire, England having worked for a Housing Management Company for five years as an Accounting Technician.
Carl is married with three daughters, enjoys sports and spending time with his family, they hope to grow their own vegetables and fruit trees.
Carl is a Student member of CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) having already become a member of AAT-UK (Association of Accounting Technicians). |
