Board of Directors
The Board of Directors are appointed to provide the governance framework for the carboNZero programme. Current directors are:
 Alistair Lawrence BCA (Chair) Alistair was appointed to the Landcare Research Board in July 2004. He is a director and shareholder of Antipodes, a private investment bank that specialises in mergers and acquisitions advice, as well as providing private equity for emerging New Zealand companies. |
Jo Brosnahan QSO, MA Hons, FCILT, FNZIM Jo was appointed to the Landcare Research Board in July 2006. She was CEO of Auckland Regional Council for 8 years, and before that CEO of the Northland Regional Council for 14 years. She is the Founding Chair of Leadership New Zealand, a charitable trust established to raise debate about leadership and to develop leaders through a mid-career programme. |
Rob Fenwick ONZM, KStJ Rob is the past Chairman of the Landcare Research Board and its longest-standing director. He was a founding member of Living Earth, which produces soil products and conditoners from organic waste. Rob’s business background reflects a strong interest in sustainable development and natural history. |
Richard Gordon, PhD Richard was appointed CEO of the Parent Company (Landcare Research) in June 2011 having previously been the company’s General Manager Environment & Society. He has been with Landcare Research since 1995 and led the team that invented and developed carboNZero and other corporate sustainability services from 2000. Prior to coming to New Zealand Richard worked in the commercial research and development environment with ICI Agrochemicals (now Syngenta) and ICI Japan Ltd. |
Edward Hanrahan

Edward Hanrahan was formerly Chief Operating Officer of ClimateCare and is currently an Executive Director within J.P. Morgan Environmental Markets. As well as working with compliance market clients, Edward has specific responsibility for J.P. Morgan’s presence in the voluntary markets and ClimateCare in particular. He was one of the two founding architects of ICROA – the International Carbon Offset Reduction Alliance – and is an active participant in the development of the voluntary carbon markets within international climate change mitigation frameworks. Edward had a career starting and developing international start ups and fast growth businesses in the online space, as a senior executive for brands such as BA, Microsoft and Expedia. |
Responsibilities
- Provide ideas, challenge and other specialist input to shape strategy and initiatives for the New Zealand and international business.
- Assist in identifying and establishing high-level networks, access to key accounts.
- Bring advanced expertise and knowledge to support decision-making that accelerates the Programme’s growth and enables it to achieve its mission.
- Provide mentoring and expert advice to the Programme Management Team.
- Report verbally to the Parent Board on developments, progress and other insights important to the business’ long-term success.
